Did you know that I took one of the first prizes in the school? It rather repaid me for working so hard. I suppose I shall go back in October but not to study so hard. I am taking lessons in China painting and like it ever so much though have not done much yet. So you play tennis as much as ever. This cool weather is just the thing for it. We love to be celebrated here with croquet. They allow us to play on the lawns in Mr. Morris park and we enjoy My dear Alice, I meant to have answered your letter before, you know how easy it is to put it off from time to time especially when you have nothing particular to write. I was down on the Island when at the Buttons when your letter reached me. I made quite a long visit.

there; and tried to go down and see you, but it was during the hottest weather and when the magnolias were at their richest, so that even Harriet did not like us to drive the horse so far. I expected to have made a visit to my Aunts but fear that it is not likely I shall be able to go there. At any rate if bicycling ever depends on going there it is highly probable I shall not see you this summer. So I want you to come up and spend the day with me very soon. Next week away I am going for a few days but after that any time would be perfectly convenient for me. You can send me a card the day before, if you like. If any of the girls will come with you, I should like very much to have them. Please come, you never have yet. It has been so long ago since I wrote you that I have most forgotten what has happened since. I worked hard at Cooper all winter and was all tired out by summer. I am just beginning to feel myself again.

It so much. Wednesday I had a splendid game with a young gentleman friend and to-day I played with him too. Sophie is pretty, nice, &c., but she has been troublesome, and at one time we were very much bewildered about her. I guess her questions will not be very soon.
