Mrs Cooper is going away on Friday for three weeks and I am going to take myself over to 23 Elk St. Friday afternoon and I really can hardly wait. And the whole I have had a pleasant winter, but I think I am so in the 134 Elk St. Albany, Apr. 4th Dear Alice: Yes I think we (particularly) have saved ourselves by the skin of our teeth long enough, & so have started a new today. Sunday is a bad day for me as I do not have any time by myself all day, so I will either write Saturday or Monday. I am so glad it is Lent if that is the only reason you sent me an answer
habit of staying here a month & then a month that I feel the one place for six months is it not? rather a long stretch. Mrs Cooper expects me to go to Bennington with her, when her house is full. I shall stay at Mrs Smiley, so that my vacations will be spring & fall, & not in the summer as I thought. I wish Hattie Pragn were here now, for she is going to stay in her Mother's house for six weeks on her return. She wrote me the other day that she expected to arrive in Albany on the 1st of May. This winter has just flown. How I should like to see you Alice. There is so much I should have to say. I am very much interested in Mr Van. Have you seen Florence since the reports came out? Poor Mr Upshur. I feel sorry for him. I believe if his wife were longer
dresses, she might prevail on him. I was so shocked to hear of Mr. William's death. Amy must be very sad she was so fond of him. I feel very sorry for her. Have you seen the Lord's kid? Do write & tell me if it looks like Papa, Mamma, Grandpa or Grandma—and be sure to write on Sunday. My best love to all. Affectionately J.E.W.

very different living with a person as a guest to that under pay & while I have enjoyed myself in many ways here I feel that I should have at least a month every summer for my own, but this I can not have at least not given me out & out to make my plans in. This is not as I expected & not altogether as I like. I was, as I always am delighted to receive your letter. I think you are very gay, flying around Dear Alice, It is taking hot & I have put on most of my summer underwear and yet feel on hundred in the shade. As the summer comes on I long to have a glimpse of S.I. & all my friends but I fear I am destined for Bennington till next November with the exception of a week or so in Albany. It is
as you do. Mamma wrote me all about the house & wrote for the kitchen things, tables, chairs etc all of which Mr Pope took. It seems so odd to think of their being back. Mamma wrote that "Poor little Schuyler was glad to be in a house! So the people were so cranky in the boarding house." Have you read in the papers of Mr Sively's going to Europe for a year & Mrs Sively & the boys are coming here for next winter!!! I have not seen much of Arthur Rice, but this afternoon Mrs Cooper is going to a meeting & I am going to spend an hour with her. I am forming great plans in my head. That man took me to church last night. Does not that interest you?
We are very busy getting ready for Bennington. Expect to leave this week from this Wednesday. Address Bennington Center, Vermont, c/o Mrs John Sayler Cooper. The girls are coming over the third of June for two weeks & from that time till the first of October someone will be at Mrs Coopers, so I shall not be lonesome. I am going out now to dust alone—with
much love to you & all believe me affectionately Julia T. Martin.
